Let’s face it – kids want to be entertained and we want them to learn something new. And the battle between how much tv they want to watch, and how many tv we want them to watch is always a hot topic in parenting land.

Being a TV lover myself, choosing the right programs for my kids to watch is important because they absorb so much every day. Over the years, we’ve spent a small fortune in educational dvd’s and child-friendly movies – most of which we’ll watch for a few months and then it’s forgotten. Terrible, I know. However with the advances in technology, great services are available for families who are looking for value and entertainment.

Quickflix is a fantastic alternative for parents who want to access child friendly tv shows, but don’t want to fill their loungeroom or dvd cases with a library of plastic. They are Australia’s largest online movie rental company, with the new ‘PLAY’ option which lets you stream content onto your computer, iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, Samsung Galaxy SIII, Samsung TV, Blu-ray players, Playstation 3®, Sony Bravia TVs and much more; and the ‘POST’ an option to have your favourites posted to you on DVD.

They’ve recently launched a Kids Channel dedicated for over 3′s, and I was invited to check it out.

As mentioned, the new Kid’s channel is geared towards over 3′s but Quickflix also have hundreds of education shows for under 3′s.

Loading up the Quickflix App on our iPad, the libraries are easy to browse and the selection of Kids tv shows is great – lots of things that we’ve never seen before aswell as old favourites like Thomas The Tank Engine and Charlie & Lola.

Quickflix PLAY gives you unlimited access to the catalog of titles across all age groups, so you’re able to watch whatever you want, whenever you want.

As an added bonus, you’re able to set the Parental Controls so even if your children figure out how to open the Quickflix service, they’re not able to see adult content. Peace of mind for parents of children with wandering fingers!

We’ve had a great time finding new tv shows to watch together, and for our family I can see us saving money in the long run because I’m not going out to buy a whole new dvd each time we want to see something new. Under Quickflix PLAY, we would be spending $14.99 a month, verses $22-30 for 1 DVD – which is the better choice?

The only issue we’ve found with streaming is that some shows stopped completely while watching them (most didn’t though) but I put this down to our internet connection. Be cautious of any download limits you have with your ISP, though generally alot of new accounts these days include more data transfer than you need. You need to be connected to the internet to stream content.

With titles added all the time, I’d recommend that everyone sign up at least for the trial to see what it’s all about and then see whether you would also save money using the Quickflix service too!

Quickflix are generously offering Australian Baby Blog readers a 6 week trial of the ‘PLAY’ service – which is a great offer considering a normal trial is 2 weeks. All you need to do is click here to sign up and you’ll begin your 6 week FREE Trial of Quickflix Play!

After testing out Quickflix, I can definately see how online streaming of tv shows for kids can be a useful and helpful service for parents. No longer do we need to switch on the tv for entertainment, it’s all right there on our computers, tablets or phones. Being able to stream the content that we want, whenever we want is such a luxury but through Quickflix, it doesn’t cost a fortune. For more information, head on over to the Quickflix website today.
